How to Prepare for a Psilocybin Retreat: A Practical Guide
People often put all their attention on the retreat itself. In our experience, what happens in the weeks before matters just as much. A person who arrives prepared gets far more out of the same seven days than someone who arrives with vague hopes.
1. Get clear on why you are going
“I want a breakthrough” is not an intention. Try to name something concrete: a pattern you keep repeating, a decision you are avoiding, a part of your life that no longer feels like yours. Write it down. You don’t need a perfect answer — you need an honest one.
2. Be completely honest in your screening
Screening exists to keep you safe. Tell the team about every medication and supplement you take, your physical and mental-health history and anything else that feels relevant. Some medications and conditions can make psilocybin unsuitable.
Never stop or change prescribed medication on your own to qualify for a retreat. Talk to your doctor first.
3. Simplify the weeks before
- Reduce alcohol and other substances.
- Protect your sleep as much as you can.
- Cut back on constant news and scrolling.
- Eat simply and spend some time outdoors.
None of this is about being perfect. It is about arriving with a nervous system that is a little less overloaded.
4. Clear your calendar properly
Don’t plan to answer work emails between sessions. Tell people you will be offline. And leave a few quiet days after you get home if you can — landing too fast is one of the most common reasons insights fade.
5. Expect it to be real work
A psilocybin retreat is not a spa week. Some moments may be emotional or uncomfortable. That is usually where the most useful material is. A good team will prepare you for this and stay close throughout.
6. Plan for integration before you leave home
Ask yourself now: what would I need in my daily life to actually act on what I discover? Time, support, a conversation you need to have. Integration is where the retreat turns into change — and it works best when it is planned in advance.
Practical packing list
- Comfortable, loose clothing and something warm for evenings
- A notebook and pen (not your phone) for writing after sessions

How preparation works at MycoSpirit
Preparation is part of the program, not something you do alone. Every participant completes a confidential suitability screening and preparatory sessions before arrival. We review your goals, background and relevant health information so you arrive knowing what to expect.
MycoSpirit runs a 7-day guided psilocybin retreat in Jamaica — all-inclusive, groups of up to 6, airport transfers, private rooms and up to three months of integration.
